FAQs

Where are you based?
Melbourne, Australia.

OK, where in Melbourne is your studio?
St Kilda.

Do you tweet?
Yes I am. Check out www.twitter.com/robobop.

Are you on flickr?
Yes I am. Check out www.flickr.com/photos/robobop.

What materials do you use?
For illustration work, I primarily create hybrid traditional-digital work (the best of both worlds!). This usually means detailed line work with graphite and / or ink and colouring via Photoshop or Painter.
For my sketching habit I have developed a liking for moleskines and similar nice books. Usually I draw with a pen, and sometimes I add more to the page.
For my paintings I use a wide range of materials, from acrylic to biro pens, as the materiality is important to the content of that stream of work.

Are you available for freelance work?
Yes — Contact me for more details.

How long does it take to create an illustration?
It's impossible to give an exact figure as the time it takes to complete a commissioned illustration depends on several factors, such as the number of illustrations, the complexity of each, and client revisions. However, as a rule of thumb - a one page magazine illustration will take 2-5 business days from the first call to the final delivery of illustration.

Where did you study?
I did an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Arts at Swinburne University in Prahran and a Masters of Fine Arts at RMIT.

Do you have a website?
You can find my illustrations and paintings on my website at www.robertscholten.com.
Note: It's currently going through an overhaul, so expect it to be live beginning 2013.

Do you sell original artwork or prints?
Yes, I do. I'm currently in the process of expanding the website to include a shop, so for now, drop me an email and we can sort things out.

So what does Robobop mean?
Good question! Robobop is my inner world; imagination, dreams, experiences, memories. I believe this is what comes through every artist when they create work.
